DELE Certification: Levels, Exam and Preparation
The Diplomas of Spanish as a Foreign Language (DELE) are internationally recognized as one of the most trusted and complete ways to certify your level of Spanish. These official diplomas are awarded by the Instituto Cervantes on behalf of the Spanish Ministry of Education and never expire. They cover six levels aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR): A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, and C2.
Each DELE exam assesses four key language skills: reading comprehension, listening comprehension, written expression and interaction, and oral expression and interaction. The format varies slightly from level to level, with different timings and difficulty, but every exam follows the same rigorous standards to measure your Spanish accurately.
At Inhispania, we adapt our DELE preparation to your level so you get the attention and support you need. For B1, B2, and C1, we offer small-group classes that create an ideal setting for interactive learning. For A1, A2, and C2, preparation is done through private classes, which are especially helpful if you need more intensive guidance or have specific learning needs. Our goal is simple: to help you walk into the exam well prepared and achieve the best possible result.
SIELE Certification: Exam Format, Scoring and Validity
The International Spanish Language Evaluation Service (SIELE) is a more flexible, modern way to certify your Spanish, ideal if you need your results quickly. Unlike the DELE, where you take an exam for a specific level, the SIELE is a single exam with a points-based score that places you on the CEFR scale (A1 to C1). The certificate is valid for five years.
The SIELE Global exam has four parts: Reading Comprehension (60 minutes, 5 tasks and 38 questions), Listening Comprehension (55 minutes, 6 tasks and 38 questions), Written Expression and Interaction (50 minutes, 2 writing tasks), and Oral Expression and Interaction (15 minutes, 5 speaking tasks). Each part is scored out of 250 points, for a maximum of 1,000. Reading and listening are marked automatically, while writing and speaking are assessed by accredited SIELE examiners. One of the SIELE’s biggest advantages is its flexibility: you can take the full exam or only the combination of skills you need.
At Inhispania, SIELE preparation is done through private classes, so it’s fully flexible and tailored to you.
