Our activities are not compulsory, but we recommend that you participate so that you can:

  • Get to know Madrid and the Spanish culture.

  • Practice Spanish with our teachers and other students.

  • And, most importantly, make a group of new friends from all over the world!

The organisation of the activities and the costs of the teacher / accompanying monitor are included in the price of the course. For activities arranged by the school, the student pays directly for the costs of transport, entry tickets and food/drink.

Dance and cookery classes also carry an extra charge.

Costs and prices for each activity are published on the activities notice board in the school. Examples of costs are:

  • Travel by train / bus for an excursion outside Madrid: 10 – 20 euros.
  • Tapas: 2 euros / per drink and tapa.
  • Daily set menu: 9 – 12 euros.
  • Entry to a museum / exhibition: 2 – 6 euros (in some cases, free for EU students).

Visit and excursions

In Madrid, you can…

  • take a photo at the geographical centre of Spain (kilometre 0).

  • take a rowing boat on the lake at the Retiro Park and then relax on the lawns.

  • visit the home of Lope de Vega (16th century) and see where Cervantes lived.

  • see the sunset from a panoramic viewpoint across Madrid.

Places to visit in Madrid

Madrid is great to enjoy by walking through the city. If it’s your first time in the city or if you have visited before, we are sure that with our suggestions you will discover something new:

  • The central areas of Madrid: Austrias, La Latina, Huertas, Chueca, Malasaña, etc.

  • The main sights: Plaza Mayor, the Royal Palace, Puerta de Alcalá, etc.

  • The parks: Retiro, Madrid River, Casa de Campo, etc.

Full day excursions

At the weekend, we organise full-day excursions to towns close to Madrid:

  • Toledo: a city of three cultures (Arabic, Jewish and Christian).

  • Segovia: with its impressive Roman aqueduct.

  • Alcalá de Henares: famous for its university and the birthplace of Miguel de Cervantes.

  • El Escorial: with an impressive palace-monastry constructed by Felipe II.

Tapas & wine

In Madrid, you can…

  • enjoy a paella on the Plaza Mayor.

  • learn to cook Spanish omelette and gazpacho soup to surprise your friends when you return home.

  • eat great Serrano ham (and want more).

  • learn the difference between a wine from Rioja and one from Ribera del Duero.

Madrid is a city full of art and culture. If you like art, get ready to enjoy yourself! You can visit excellent museums with wonderful masterpieces and get to know the latest trends. Even better, the majority of the exhibitions are free or are very cheap.

The wide variety of shows and performances is also impressive: cinema, theatre, musicals, dance, flamenco… And endless opportunities to get involved.

  • Great museums: the Prado Museum, the Reina Sofia museum, etc.

  • Smaller muesums: the Sorolla museum, Casa Cerralbo, etc.
